The German government has eased immigration rules for international students and universities are pushing for more classes in English: two factors heavily influencing students to study abroad. Many students are flocking to Germany to escape the hefty price-tag for American universities.

Germany’s public universities are free! Yes, you heard that right. They are famous for their no-tuition policies. Free for both local and international students. U.S. students still encounter fees, but it pales in comparison to the fees U.S. universities charge. Some of these fees include: public transportation, meals, and a residency permit.
If a student qualifies for financial aid, provided by the U.S. federal government, they can often apply that aid towards attending a German university. Subsidized loans, unsubsidized loans, and PLUS loans can all be applied to German universities.
International students are eligible to receive German scholarships. The DAAD is leading this effort by offering international students funds to attend their universities, in hopes of attracting stellar applicants.
